How to Improve Your Spelling

Whether or not you like it, spelling is very important, not only for children but for adults as well. If you cannot spell, it will be hard for you to be successful in school. It will also be hard for you to get a decent job.

Did you know that most hiring managers throw out poorly written cover letters and resumes? Most employers assume that if you don’t care enough to write a decent cover letter, then you’re not going to be a decent employee. It is very important to know how to spell. If you are a poor speller, then you should definitely work to improve your spelling ability. There is no doubt about that.

The big question is how do you improve your spelling ability? You have a 9 to 5 job, a husband, a dog, and two kids. When are your supposed to work on you? Do you have time to go sit in a classroom? Do you have the money to buy an expensive book that will only take you so far and then need to buy another book?

Everyone always says that if you can’t spell a word, look it up in the dictionary. How can you find the term if you can’t spell it? That sounds like a bit of Murphy’s Law. Not doing one thing can prevent you from doing another thing.

Some of us are natural born spellers. We don’t think about it; we just do it. Still, when we are asked to explain how we do it, we can’t explain our skill. If we truly are natural born spellers, then we are being completely honest when we say we can’t explain our skill. I am one of those naturally, gifted spellers. Because of this, I often find it hard to accept that there are many who do not spell as well as I do.

Still, that only makes me want to help them more. As a teacher, I believe that anyone can be successful; they just need the right tools in order to achieve their goals. Over the years, educational theorists, teachers, and administrators have all voiced their opinions on how to improve spelling. You should read more, play board games, write more, make word lists, create vocabulary pictures, and the list goes on and on.

What is too often excluded from the list of methods by which people can improve their spelling skills is by utilizing spelling software programs. Unlike some of the suggested methods, computer spelling systems actually engage students. They make learning fun and believe it or not, personal.

Software programs like Ultimate Spelling allow students to create their own learning experiences by tailoring spelling lists to their own needs. It also provides students with endless opportunities to receive positive reinforcement through practices and tests designed to help users succeed and build up self confidence.

All persons, regardless of age, learn best when they are engaged in fun, interactive learning. Even when they are not able to reach their initial goals, students are still rewarded and encouraged to improve their spelling skills when using spelling software programs.
